A non-profit organization, the Evanston Art Center is one of the largest community art centers in Illinois. For nearly 80 years, the EAC has been dedicated to fostering the appreciation and expression of the visual arts among the diverse audiences of the Greater Chicago/North Shore region, striving to make the art of our time an accessible and integral part of the community's life.
More than 100 classes and workshops in the visual arts are offered to roughly 1,200 students of all ages and abilities each term. Classes and workshops are offered in ceramics, drawing, fiber, figure sculpture, jewelry, metal sculpture, painting, photography, printmaking and youth fine arts.
The Evanston Art Center's professional faculty, numbering more than fifty, are practicing artists, many of whom have Chicago gallery affiliations.
The Evanston Art Center's Exhibition Program presents changing exhibitions of contemporary art focusing on artists from the Midwest, with special emphasis on the Chicagoland region. The Art Center consistently receives high ratings from the Illinois Arts Council Visual Art Panel for proven excellence in its exhibition program, ranking in the top three in its category since 1997. The Art Center's four galleries are open to the public, free of charge.
